A developer stumbled upon a suspicious illustration in Apple’s iOS 8 documentation, posted late last night. In an article about the forthcoming Apple Media Service, a new Bluetooth service to connect iOS devices to accessories, a diagram describing the relationship between “media servers” and “media remotes”—presumably, iPhones and wearable devices—includes a drawing of what appears to be a circular watch.

Interestingly, Apple could have included an illustration of any sort of media remote with its graphics, and it chose to include a watch. What’s more, Apple has provided this Bluetooth specification for possible use by other hardware manufacturers, who might be able to produce devices compatible with future iOS devices.

The illustration appears in previous Apple documentation, as well, so it might just be a placeholder for its long-awaited wearable. However, it’s curious that Apple is using an illustration that so closely resembles the rumored iWatch mere days before it’s expected to be unveiled to the world.

The developer article is currently available to view to the public, without a developer login. This would be the first indication from Apple that the wrist truly is an area of intense interest for the company—so much so, that its developer resources are beginning to indicate the depth of its “focus.” Regardless of whether this drawing reflects a real-world product, we’ll certainly know a lot more after Apple’s event on Tuesday.
