Seeing Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin in concert

The four members of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin posing together.

I recently attended a concert by one of my favourite bands, named Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. Touring to promote their new album, called Pershing, they came to a little indie music venue in my area and the show was intimate enough that I got to meet and get signatures from all of the members. Their performance was incredible, and I’ll just summarize the gist of the show for you here.

They played mainly songs from the second album, many of which I was unfamiliar with but could enjoy nonetheless. Phil, pictured second from left in the photo above, while usually drummer and backup singer, took the lead singing position for a couple of songs near the end, donning obnoxious pink sunglasses and occasionally jumping into the air at appropriate crescendos. In a word, their stage presence was great.

After their show I got to talk with all of them and buy Pershing, which I had autographed, and about which I’ll post a review sometime soon. The concert was a great time, and even the openers, including standout favorites Haha Tonka and Our Cat Philip, were pretty fantastic (Haha Tonka had a hilarious stage presence and put on a very entertaining show). On the whole, I’d give the whole concert a 9.4 out of 10.
